Hughes, a Ronald Reagan-appointee to a federal district court in Texas, criticizing his \u201coutlandish racial comments\u201d in a case brought by a South Asian man alleging employment discrimination:<\/p>\n<p>At one point, during a hearing in a racial discrimination case, Hughes reportedly said, \u201cEleanor Roosevelt said staffs of one color always work better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During the same hearing, Hughes also reportedly questioned the role of diversity programs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy don\u2019t they just hire people and let diversity take care of itself?\u201d Hughes asked, according to the group\u2019s complaint. \u201cAnd what does the diversity director do?
