{"id":2131,"date":"2012-06-21T15:36:56","date_gmt":"2012-06-21T19:36:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/therationalprogressive.com\/cms\/?p=2131"},"modified":"2012-06-21T15:36:56","modified_gmt":"2012-06-21T19:36:56","slug":"health-insurance-plans-owe-1-1-billion-in-rebates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/therationalprogressive.com\/cms\/2012\/06\/health-insurance-plans-owe-1-1-billion-in-rebates\/","title":{"rendered":"Health insurance plans owe $1.1 billion in rebates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a new report, the Obama administration found that 12.8 million Americans will receive rebates this year, with an average value of $151 per household.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe big improvement here is a better value for the premium dollar,\u201d said Mike Hash, interim director of the Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight. \u201cWhat this standard encourages issuers to do is be prudent in their administrative expenditures, so the bulk of the premium dollar is going to pay for benefits.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hash would not speak to what might happen to the rebate checks should the Supreme Court strike down the law. \u201cWe are quite confident the court will uphold the Affordable Care Act in its entirety,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>This requirement \u2014 known in the law as the \u201cmedical loss ratio standard\u201d \u2014 came into effect on Jan. 1, 2011.
